ADULT PROGRAMMING & EVENTS

2012 Programs

February 12th: VPR commentator Ron Krupp will discuss his book, Lifting the Yoke

What we did in 2011

To Kill a Mockingbird

MCL took part in the "Vermont Reads" program for 2011.  The book selected was To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

The reading program culminated with a discussion of the novel on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at 2 pm.

Sherlock Holmes

August 27, 2011, Sally Sugarman spoke.  Ms. Sugarman is an expert on that great consulting detective, Sherlock Holmes.

What is Holmes appeal? Why are there over 300 societies dedicated to him? Why are pastiches, fan fiction, video games, movies and television programs still being produced in great numbers?  We were all entertained with unusual facts about Doyle, Holmes and Watson.

Novelists

Our mystery series began with a discussion with Sara J. Henry on July 30, 2011, who read from her current novel, Learning to Swim, and the first chapter of her second upcoming book. Ms. Henry promised to come back again after her second book is released and everyone that was there is looking forward to her return.

On Sunday, November 6, 2011, two local writers read from their novels.  Mary Holland, who writes science fiction, read from her book The Spaces In Between and C. W. Wolf read from his fantasy novel, The Unknown Pyp.
